40 years of fail --- anniversary of the Cuyahoga River Fire

The Cuyahoga River in the Cuyahoga Valley Nati...Image via Wikipedia

Today is the 40th anniversary of the event that would eventually lead to the name of this blog, as well as become the first in a series of events that would lead my home town of Cleveland, OH to become a national joke. It was not actually the first time that the Cuyahoga river was aflame, but it would be the most memorable. The events of June 22, 1969 led Time magazine to describe it in these words, “No Visible Life. Some river! Chocolate-brown, oily, bubbling with subsurface gases, it oozes rather than flows.

The river is actually much cleaner now, as is the whole waterfront of Northeast Ohio, proper use and development of that water front top actually make our city a place people want to come to, well that’s another story.

"Weird Al" does The Doors

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 11: Singer ''Weird...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

“Weird Al” Yankovic has yet again created a most awesome parody song. This time he parodies the online garage sale/adult services/rant site, Craigslist in the musical style of the Doors.

Rather then a straight up re-doing of a song, this one is more of a stylistic paradoy with what seems to me like, “When the Music’s Over,” mised with pieces of “Soul Kitchen” and “Roadhouse Blues.”

Home Brew Procrastinator

Mr Beer PackageImage by vcalzone via Flickr

This past Friday night I went to go see, (and to help haul their equipment in my truck) my friends band, the Uncaged play at the Spitfire Saloon in Lakewood --- a really awesome punk bar btw, with a pretty kick ass selection cheep beer as well as a bunch of American Micro Brews. It was while enjoying a Hazed & Infused, a really tasty brew, with a psychedelic label from the Boulder Beer Company that I was reminded of the fact that I never got around to making my first batch of home brew.

Home brewing is something that I have been wanting to do for quite a while now and have never gotten around to, much like most things that I want to do. A few months back I purchased a Mr. Beer Home Brewing kit from Woot and waited excitedly until it came.

From what I have gathered Mr. Beer is sort of like the Easy Bake Oven of Home Brewing --- which is great for me because I absolutely hate reading instruction manuals, and the How To Brew book I bought off of Amazon read like you need a degree in Chemistry in order to brew.

But it is three months later and the Mr. Beer kit is still sitting next to my computer desk waiting for me to fill the plastic keg up with some (hopefully) homemade beer goodness.

Once I get around to actually brewing up pmy first batch, I will attempt to document the process here.

Why Do American Metal Festivals suck?
Why can’t there be awesome festivals like this in the States?

Faith No More, Motley Crue, Opeth, Meshuggah, Voivod, Duff McKagen’s Loaded, Down, Ripper Owens, Chris Cornell, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Dream Theater, Clutch, Volbeat and Therapy? All during the same 3 day festival.

Before I die I need to go to Europe and attend a summer festival concert.

Here is Down at this past weekend’s Download Festival in Donington, England.

Black Sabbath Super Fan

The "devil's horns" symbol that Dio ...Image via Wikipedia

I love me some Black Sabbath. I think that Tony Iommi is the godfather of all that is heavy in music. I think Ronnie James Dio is a heavy metal god. Much like the excited guy in this video, I too believe that Black Sabbath, or Heaven & Hell as this current version of the band are called, are indeed the masters of heavy metal.

I don’t however go to autograph signings, or conventions and stuff for fear of being associated with guys like this:
